The designer from well-known yacht design studio, Nuvolari Lenard shares how to create a successful vessel
Dan Lenard, stylist and cofounding designer of the well-known studio, Nuvolari Lenard, spoke to Daily Nautica during the first edition of the World Yachting Summit in Monaco; he spoke to us, media partners for this event, about his set professional objective, even after over thirty years in business. “Like in music – explains the designer – once you have released 10 successful albums, the 11th needs to be a success too.”
Nuvolari Lenard, a success story
What makes a successful yacht? According to Lenard, “it is a combination of beauty, proportion and perceivable value.” Because all the work, technical, and ecconomic, at the base of each unit, needs to be highlighted, so that the full richness of the result can be seen by any who look at it. “Knowing that there are so many yachts out there designed by Nuvolari Lenard – admits the designer – is wonderful, but it is also a great responsibility. Each new design becomes harder and harder to turn into something iconic, recognisable and, why not, ‘Instagrammable’.”
NL PLUS: from style to brand
This work culminated in the program, Nuvolari Lenard PLUS, “this is very common in industries like fashion – says Lenard – where the products are branded by designers, but this is something completely new for boating. A sort of yacht pedigree, designed by us, but that turns our style into a brand.”
